Just a quick note from me this morning before I head off to school, encouraging people to change their profile pictures on Facebook to support International Women's Day. I have posted the above photo to my profile, after being inspired by my friend Yasamin Mahjoub who came up with the idea.
And I’ll leave you with as some thoughts from a friend of mine:
"Living here, and enjoying (relative) equality in opportunities, we may think the need for women’s empowerment has passed, that the fight for equality is over. You may even be tired of this issue.
Please don’t be. We are privileged to be living in a society that recognizes women as equals. Millions of women and girls around the world are still treated as inferiors and are refused the same opportunities as men. They are subject to unfair treatment, and often the victims of domestic violence and in several countries, the horrific act of female genital mutilation.
Educate yourself, and PLEASE don’t get bored with this issue. Because empowering women will empower generations."
