Sound Off: Too Old for Halloween?

There you are in your bunny or lion costume at three years old, walking down the street with your parents. You can’t wait for your mom or dad to tell you to go ahead to the next door. You’re bubbling with wild excitement, wanting to run to every house, never mind walking, just to yell out, “Trick-or-treat!!!” at the top of your lungs.
Your parents can see the joy on your face and want to take a picture of you to capture your exhilaration, knowing that soon you will be too old to go door-to-door on Halloween night. But why are teens considered too old to trick-or-treat?

Trick-or-treating on Halloween for teens is a night to hang out with your friends, dress up in silly costumes and get free candy. What’s better than that? Maybe the costumes aren’t as crucial to teens as they are to those six-year-olds Halloweening with their parents, but it’s still fun. And maybe, for some, the candy isn’t even all that important. But running down the streets, racing your friends with more effort than you put into running cross-country at school, is still fun, regardless of your age.

Halloween brings out the kid in everyone, even teens! As much as many of us would be embarrassed to admit it, we all remember our childhood years when we’d tear down the streets, flying with the wind in our faces as we ran; and all we want to do is relive those days.

So why deny us our right to feel like a kid just one last time before adulthood? Why should teens have to feel like they should be ashamed to enjoy trick-or-treating on Halloween? Teenagers will never be too old to trick-or-treat, it’s just too much fun.
