Setting goals

Words of Wisdom: Goal Setting

Congratulations! You have made it through half of the school year! But don’t get too comfortable; that means there are still five months to go. To help you successfully complete your year, it may be best to set some goals. Here are a few tips to setting solid, realistic goals.

1. Make sure they are attainable.

Don’t set crazy high goals for yourself. Be sure that the goal you set for yourself is something within your reach. For example, aiming to get 98 per cent in English may be a little tricky if you’re currently sitting at 60 per cent, but a 10 per cent increase is a good target.

2. Make your new goals measurable.

That means that you will be able to see if you are on your way to successfully reaching them or not. For example, maybe you want to set aside one hour for studying Social Studies every week. Whatever your goals are, it helps to put numbers to them so you can actually see how you’re doing along the way.

3. Write them down.

Make sure you keep a record of what you want to achieve between now and the end of June and keep it somewhere you can see it. That way you can remind yourself what you’re working for. And hey – if someone else sees them, then they can help you work to achieve those goals too! It’s a bonus!

4. Reward yourself!

When June rolls around and you’ve finally achieved the goals that you set for yourself way back in January, give yourself a treat! You have worked so hard to meet your goals – you deserve it!

Setting realistic goals for yourself will really help you get a handle on the rest of the school year!
