This is a quick follow-up on the 2009 We Day entry. 10 by Ten is an initiative launched by Free the Children and Me to We, and was described in detail during We Day. Still, I thought this campaign deserved its own blog.
The chances are that a lot of you already know about 10 by Ten, but I thought I’d mention it briefly to give it whatever plug that I could.
10 by Ten is a perfect example of how easy it is to take action. Sign up on their website for 10 action plans (or even less) that you will be committing to, to change the world in 2010. Maybe the words “action plan” seems a bit intimidating, but they’re not asking for a list like: 1) Solve world hunger 2) Tackle global warming 3) End all crimes …
Instead, what they want is easy, practical, doable things that you will, indeed, do. Here are some of the examples that they give you: turn off the lights, drink water from a re-usable water bottle, Read about a new social issue, etc.
Oh, wait, it gets better. For every person who signs up, 10 dollars will automatically be donated for you by the Aviva fund, toward a developing community overseas. Seriously, you sign up for 10 simple, easy commitments and someone donates money FOR you? What’s the catch?
Well, uh, no catch. Unless you count the fact that you should carry out those 10 commitments. And also that you need to go to their website and sign up. In fact, do that right now: www.giveyour10.com
And thanks for making a difference!
10 By 10 is a great idea!
I love that you wrote an article on 10 by 10. I went to WE DAY myself and as soon as I got home, did the 10 by 10. It so great that people will be able to make a difference with the click of a mouse! Not only does it donate to a great cause, but it inspires people to go further.
Little steps, like 10 by 10,
Little steps, like 10 by 10, are the things that help get more people to help our world. Just getting the information out there and starting with the small things goes a long way.
You convinced me...
After having read this article, I signed up myself to make 10 commitments. You let me know about an easy way to donate, and the small change I can make. People need to be aware of this opportunity, for all it takes is a little time.
10 by 10
Nowadays, so many people don't do their part to try and better our world because they think it takes too much effort, but something like 10 by 10 only requires a few small and easy commitments and in the end you benefit others, yourself and the community. I think this is a great way for people to start making a change.
