Back to Basics at New York Fashion Week

I really like this week's topic, Sunshine State of Mind. Not only does it resemble our fashion title, Eternal Sunshine of the Stylish Mind, I can officially say "it's Sunshine State of Mind time!"

I'm not bonkers; I'm actually talking about Michael Kors’s collection recently shown at New York Fashion Week – Sunshine State of Mind.

After a whirlwind fashion week, taking place September 9 - 16, the forecast is in (If you haven’t checked already, shame on you)! It’s all about easy and breezy, meaning spring 2011 fashion hints at looser, easy glam (1970’s inspired) trends. Goodbye bold shoulders, which seem to have dominated fashion for the past gazillion seasons.

To put it simply, next year’s fashion is all about simple sophistication and elegance. Flat shoulder bags, silky blouses, the original trench coat and stylish flats are just a few must-have spring items.

“It's all about the way you cut it, the texture. ... You can't hide behind ruching and ruffles. But I love simplicity when it's right,” - Michael Kors, backstage at NYFW

So before you fall into those winter blues, cheer up! Kors latest certainly has me all smiles and sunshine. Why? It appears like after a winter’s hibernation of thick scarves, legwarmers and snow pants, spring might actually look pretty bright in the fashion world ... here’s to hoping.
