A Look Back at Frosh Week

My advice on how to survive frosh week.

Frosh week was one of the wildest weeks of my life. My slight nervousness of moving to this big city was quickly replaced by excitement at the great events that were ahead of me. Frosh week is the first week of school that is filled with orientations and events, giving students a chance to meet other students. From club nights, to water fights, to a yacht party and an amazing race around Toronto, this week was both exhilarating and exhausting. I found myself singing for money on Dundas square, dancing around in foam for hours and playing bingo dressed as a boy. These crazy experiences are ones that could only be explained by frosh.

Frosh is one of the best ways to meet your peers! My recommendation would be to partake in all of the activities offered by your school. Keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to try something different. Frosh only happens once, and it is really beneficial to make the best out of it!

Frosh Week is also the time when you realize how different university is from high-school. As an adult, you partake in activities that would have seemed wild and crazy, and frowned upon in a high-school environment. Temptation and distractions are everywhere and even though you have no classes during frosh, you really need to make the time to take care of any important additions to your to-do lists. Paying off your fee’s, buying school supplies and even trying to find out the location of your classes beforehand are all important. My advice: take care of these errands with your friends, to make it feel like less work.

Despite my busy schedule during frosh week, I did manage to find time to get through some housekeeping. Since I was flying to school from Vancouver, there was only so much I could pack in two carry-ons; the rest I had to take care of here. Items like a mini-fridge, printer, alarm clock, bedding and even a sound system were all little things that I had to make time for, especially since school started a few days after frosh.

So remember next year when you're where I was a couple of weeks ago, enjoy your first week, but don’t forget that frosh doesn’t last forever.
