The best part about Ryerson is the fact that it sits right in the middle of the action. The campus is less than a block away from Dundas Square (one of the busiest intersections in Toronto), and only steps away from the Eaton Centre. The campus actually extends into downtown as well; the Ted Rogers Management School is in the Eaton Centre and we have a lecture hall in the American Multi-Cinema movie theatre!
Toronto is a city that never sleeps. I always knew that moving to Ryerson and living in the heart of downtown would be fun, but I never realized that this city really has so much to offer! There is always something going on in the city. From the Toronto International Film Festival to Nuit Blanche, an annual all-night arts festival, to constant concerts, celebrity sightings and festivals, it’s hard to ever be bored at Ryerson.
I got my first taste of the action at Toronoto Internation Film Festival (TIFF). The Ryerson Theatre is actually one of the venues that hosts some of the films, so there were tonnes of cool red carpets at the school. Seeing Ryan Gosling, Megan Fox, Adam Scott, Seth Rogan, Kirsten Dunst, and even John Hamm at my school was a great experience! I also got to see a film at TIFF, which I definitely enjoyed!
It seems like the options are endless! I have gone to a Coldplay concert at MuchMusic, been to Canada’s Walk of Fame Awards, a Blue Jays game, a private Dragonette concert on Toronto Island and even a taping of MTV Live. I am trying to take advantage of the many entertainment options available here.
If you end up in a city like Toronto for school, take advantage of it. Take the time to see the city and try new things. Your college years are irreplaceable; so in the little time you have between studying, projects and classes, indulge in the culture. Trust me when I say, its hard to be bored here!
