So let's cover the basic back to school trends that we've all heard about: Skinnies, flats, gladiator sandals, cardigans; yes they're still in. But as for some new trends that are just appearing in fashion blogs everywhere, the vintage to the 80's inspired, that's what I'm here to write about.
For the ladies:
A trend that's been coming back is the grungy baggy look. Grab your boyfriend's oversize, flannel shirt or blouse and wear it with a pair of tights. To finish the look off, try belting the top so the outfit looks polished and neat.
Chunky jewelry is still in, and the big tip for fall is accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! I can't stress how much a hat, scarf or necklace can make an outfit look so much different. Anything woolly is warm and nice for the fall, and large sweaters paired with skinnies or tights are ridiculously comfy and still look fashionable.
As for denim, the looks are getting wilder and more daring. Besides the skinnies, which are still in, girls can grab a pair of the new and comfy boyfriend jeans and pair them with a fitted band tee or v-neck shirt. Jean jackets look nice worn with tights, but try not to wear them with a pair of jeans to avoid the "double denim" look, which is definitely cringe-worthy.
The latest, and most rebellious jean trend to hit the streets is the "shredded jean." Now, I'm not talking big rips that we've all seen, but actual thin shreds that go right along the jean. These look best on skinnies, and are well on their way to becoming the 'it' jean for denim lovers everywhere.
While we're already talking about shredding things, shredded shirts are also starting to gain popularity in the blogging circle. Shredding the shoulders or the sides or even the whole thing (worn with something underneath, mind you), can change an ordinary white v-neck into something new and fun.
For the guys:
The old American vintage feel is back. Wool ties and fleeces, even biker boots are back.
Earth tones are big, and some items the men should pick up are suspenders, tweed paperboy inspired hats, pea coats and blazers.
The accessories with the guys are also becoming big, and even throwing on a simple scarf over a shirt or trench coat can make it look so much better.
Another growing trend would be classic slacks and colourful flannel shirts. Remember guys, sharp and smart is the key!
Fall Fashion
Fall fashion 2009 has brought the wonderful '80s back! The boyfriend shirts and jeans can be seen anywhere and everywhere. Not only are these looks comfortable but they make you look classy at the same time (as long as you don't over-do the cut up jeans). Another fall fashion trend soon to hit the streets is the Moccasin boot!
