Belieb It or Not...

Surprisingly, there’s something that Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and Serena Williams all have in common. Need a hint?

Teenage Dream (pink glitter), Not Like The Movies (silver), Last Friday Night (shimmering bright blue), and The One That Got Away (dark purple) are all nail lacquer colours from Katy Perry’s newly announced nail polish line in collaboration with the infamous OPI nail lacquer brand.

Bieber fever symptoms now include a change in the nail colour, with symptoms varying individual to individual. Yes, you guesed it, Bieber has his own line, too!

JBieb’s collection is also in collaboration with OPI and includes colors such as One Less Lonely Girl (lavender), Me + Blue (dark blue) and OMB! (bright red).

And “OMB!” is right. Oh my biebs ... does this nail polish line prove that things are getting a little out of hand in terms of Bieber Fever or is it just another celebrity branching out into the nail polish industry?

Personally, I think it’s just a tad crazy ... especially after finding the heading “Bieber Shoes to be Enshrined at Bata Shoe Museum” in the daily Metro this week. And now a nail polish line named after his songs?

Nevertheless, celebrity names (Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna) have dominated the perfume and makeup counters for decades, and perhaps it’s just the biebster’s turn. Even the hit show Glee is launching a nail polish line with names like Slushied (opaque blue) and Gleek Out (glittery green).

In my opinion, nail polish has always been one of the most flexible and easiest accessories to don. You can change it whenever you want, however you want, and it’s very affordable. Giants such as Cover Girl have their hand in the nail polish business for usually under $10 a bottle, while Chanel and Dior have always had those timeless $25 bottles, available on their websites.

Market research from Kline and Company says that the nail polish industry grew 14.3 per cent in 2009. And in our shaky economy, the lipstick and gloss industry, according to the same survey, dropped 5.3 per cent.

Last but definitely not least, Serena Williams' nail polish line has been said to be “simply smash-ing”, and I would definitely agree just from hearing about it. Also in collaboration with OPI, they’ve come up with the Glam Slam nail lacquer and Shatter nail polish, which cracks to create a desert-like land crack design.

And get this, it’s rumored in 2010 Williams was studying to be a manicurist at the Palm Beach Nail School in Florida on the side. I can’t wait to get my hands ... and nails on her new nail lacquer. It sounds incredibly unique and creative.

Eenie Meenie ... actually, sorry, but I'm gonna say this One Time, I've already made up my mind. I’m not letting Williams' OPI line be The One that Got Away!
