Forsya Boutique Turns One!

At the corner of Main Street and 6th Avenue in Vancouver lies Forsya, a small, unintimidating and very chic boutique. On April 9th, I had the pleasure of attending an in-store fashion show where Forsya’s owner Julie Hebb was launching her new in-house label of the same name.

Walking up the steps into the boutique, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm atmosphere that greeted me. The store was petite, but I was immediately drawn to the pieces on display and the paintings that were for sale on the walls (not to mention free cupcakes that matched the colours of the line!).

The line was a fun spring collection with lots of pastel colours (soft pinks and blue hues were prominent) and florals. Ruffles were big in this line, and the sleeves were bunched up, creating volume. I was left raving about a short green dress with sleeves and ruffles along the neckline, and a big green button on the front.

Among other eye-catching items was a soft yellow off-the-shoulder top and a floral dress with warm colours such as red, yellow and orange. I also noticed that all the shoes (kitten heels) matched the tops.

Although the collection was limited, I found it to be quite successful. All the pieces were extremely wearable and very cute. I found out later on that in addition to looking fantastic, the pieces were very eco-conscious.

I caught up with designer Hebb after the show and asked her about the line. “It’s supposed to be a fun, flirty, feminine line. There are lots of bright colours - it’s easy to wear. They’re all made by myself and my friend who helped me out in my studio in the back.”

I left the Forsya show longing after some of the adorable pieces, and I definitely plan on returning again sometime soon.
