Harry “TrendsPotter”

Did you go? What, to the concert? Home? The washroom? No silly, of course I'm talking about the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows last week. And we all know what pairs nicely with a great flick: fashion!

Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger and was also the face of UK label Burberry, has recently announced her plans to design for a high-end, yet eco-friendly, Italian designer, Ferretti.

Interesting to note that Ferretti is not alone in the blooming retail industry of eco-friendly industry. Just take a look at Stella McCartney for example and even Bono's Edun fashion line.

Nonetheless, my personal all-time favourite fashion piece inspired from the Harry Potter series remains to be Luna Lovegood’s Lion hat. What a Hat!

One thing that catches my eye when it comes to ‘Wizard fashion’ is, well, just look at Ron's shabby, oversized robes he’s clothed throughout the series. As the youngest Weasley, his garments are most likely hand-me-downs. You never know, but let’s hope they are that and not the result of a very horrible sense of how and what to wear in the non-muggle world.

Speaking of on-screen fashion, it's interesting to note how Hollywood glamorizes and brushes up the appearances of certain characters - the portrayal of Ron's character in the books gives off a sense that he has had to make do with what he has, yet in the movies, he still manages to look good.

The clothing the characters wear certainly defines who they are in the story and perhaps projects a part of their personality, too.

After almost a good long decade of following the series, it’s amazing that I’ve only recently started paying more attention to the wizardly fashion of Harry Potter.

Likewise

Looks like I'm not the only one who sees how good Ron looks no matter what's been thrown onto him. But maybe it's only because he's my favourite. Nevertheless, I agree wholeheartedly that the clothes everyone wears in Harry Potter do show some sort of personality they have.
I never thought that Emma Watson was "too pretty", she was the perfect actor for Hermione Granger!

What Happened in PoA?

I don't really mind either way, but I've always wondered - what happened in the Prisoner of Azkaban? All of a sudden they all changed into Muggle clothing, while still at school. It just threw me off a bit.

I'm with ezlabeth, here - they can't change the actors now. They'd be better off letting them develop and helping them grow as actors. I never saw any of them as being 'too pretty' - they're not described as much in the books after the first few, and it only makes sense that they grow out of the ugly duckling stage later.

I, too, am a fan of the Harry

I, too, am a fan of the Harry Potter series, and I've noticed that in the movies they tend to wear their 'muggle' clothing a lot more often than their wizard robes when in fact in the books, it's the opposite. It doesn't look bad or anything, but I wish they wouldn't change everything when the book goes through the transition of paper to film.

Hollywood's Adaptation

I am so glad that I am not the only one who realized that Ron looks to nice on screen than what he is described as in the books. It is the like issue a few years back with Emma Watson being “too pretty” to play Hermione Granger. While I know of other’s who would have preferred a recasting of the core cast of the Harry Potter movies as they outgrow their characters, I personally agree with Hollywood in keeping the cast the same, as they are already the faces of Harry Potter. Hollywood was bound to make a few mistakes as they do with every novel adaptation; at least the actors are to pretty and not a major plot hiccup.

Back to fashion, I agree that the clothes the characters where do define their personalities as it does forever average person. Since the major wardrobe change from the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - when the core cast still wore their Hogwarts school robes - to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – when they changed to t-shirts and jeans – they grew up from the small kids they were in the first two movies into the teenagers with blossoming personalities in the next six movies.
