Fans have been waiting since last November to, once again, have the opportunity to break out their elaborate costumes inspired by Hermione, Ron and Harry... and the wait is finally over!
Fangirls and boys are proudly wearing their fashion creations to see the final installment of the Harry Potter saga, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. And if you are thinking of buying tickets for opening week, dismiss your futile efforts now because I guarantee shows have been sold out for a while.
Now, to be honest, the kid in me is still jumping up and down in excitement the day before the release of the final movie. The somewhat more mature teenager in me is having trouble working up the same enthusiasm for this much-anticipated event. It seems like just yesterday that I was reading the series ravenously, awaiting the release of the next book and the next.
Alas, we have found ourselves at the end, where Harry Potter himself (well, OK, actor Daniel Radcliffe) pre-filmed an appearance for the premiere because he has already moved onto bigger and better things on Broadway. Rupert Grint, who assumes the role of Ron Weasley, says in an interview that being on set of the final Harry Potter film became a bit of a bore.
I guess these incidents don’t come as much of a surprise if you consider that the three main stars of Harry Potter have been at this gig for a decade. If you ask me, the craze has gone a little past the expiration date, especially if the stars themselves don’t even feel the same exhilaration.
Nonetheless, this is a somewhat bittersweet event on the Harry Potter journey, on which spectators have seen the actors grow up along with them. Those crazed fans can have their short bit of sentimentality while the only thing I really want to do is ferociously flick my wand while exclaiming “Colloportus!” at this fad. (Any Harry Potter fan can tell you matter-of-factly that “Colloportus” is the spell that closes the door and binds it so it cannot be opened.)
The Harry Potter era has ended, at least for me. That being said, J.K. Rowling has created enough of a phenomenon to slightly pique the curiosity of the kid who still exists within me. There is a possibility you’ll see me in the latest and final film of Harry Potter, but not for another month or two and at the back of the discount theatre.
Disagree
I disagree as well. I might not be as crazy as a fan as some people, but I like Harry Potter. I have watched every movie and read every book and liked every one of them. Harry Potter was a phenomenon and will be missed dearly.
I disagree completely. I
I disagree completely. I personally was at the midnight showing in a full costume, Gryffindor tie and all. Yeah, it's been 10 years since the first movie came out, but that is no reason to turn your back on the series now. If the novelty of it has worn off then there has to be a least some value in the nostalgia of watching Harry, Ron and Hermione fight Voldemort, one last time.
