The people who appear on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list have never been strangers to fortune or fame. 2011 is no different. However, for only the third time in seven years, Oprah does not top the list!
If Gaga has felt any discontent amidst the $90 million she earned on her Monster Ball world tour and the 10 million Little Monsters following her Twitter, her latest triumph as the most influential celebrity must be reassuring.
The Top 10 of the 2011 Forbes’ Celebrity 100 is as follows:
To no surprise, the younger generations of the entertainment industry are beginning to have more influence on society. Whether this has a positive or a negative effect is up for debate.
On one hand, it may be indication of youth’s mounting ability to impact the world (particularly through social media). On the other hand, some argue that the young people most distinguished today are not worthy of their booming celebrity influence (check out the Top 10 list and take a wild guess at who said celebrities may be *cough* Bieber.)
In any case, you have to admit that seeing Bieber’s face advertised beside a shampoo bottle would encourage you to either pre-order the product weeks before its release date or to steer as far away from it as possible.
Maybe this is the true power of Forbes’ Celebrity 100: advertising.
A little silly
Justin Bieber landing a spot on that high up on the list seems kind of silly to me. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the kid, but seriously, what has he done for society except for sending preteen girls crazy? Although he IS quite influencial, he only influences the female population. Therefore, I don't think he deserves a spot that high. To be rated that high up the list, he will have to be able to influence BOTH the male and female population.
