Kanyegate: Outspoken West Disses Swift

Now, I don’t know if everyone remembers this, but we as humans, have a right called, "Freedom of Speech and Expression" and I think that we sometimes take it for granted – but not Kanye West! In fact, he exercises this right on the daily; whenever he can, wherever he can.

Let’s use the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards as an example, when Taylor Swift proved victorious in the Best Female Video category for You Belong With Me, which beat out Beyoncé’s Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It),” mere moments after Swift began her acceptance speech, West took to the stage, physically took the microphone from Swift’s hand, to announce that Beyoncé deserved the award.

Swift was beaming, and started, “Thank you so much! I always dreamed about what it would be like to maybe win one of these someday, but I never actually thought it would have happened. I sing country music so thank you so much for giving me a chance to win a VMA award.”

Before Swift was able to rightfully bask in her spotlight some more, West hijacked the opportunity. “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!” And as quickly as he ran on the stage, he was gone with the wind, leaving Swift dumbfounded and aghast.

The smiles were wiped off the audience’s faces as they booed West off the stage; cameras captured an astonished and horrified Beyoncé still in her seat; shortly thereafter, the audience gave a standing ovation in support of Swift.

VMA sources reported seeing Swift hysterically crying backstage, after her disrupted acceptance speech. Although dealing with the situation with pure class and integrity, Swift performed You Belong to Me flawlessly – which followed right after her speech – to more applause from the audience.

Later on in the show, when Beyoncé won Best Video of the Year for Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It), she invited Swift to the stage, to finally have her much deserved acceptance speech.

Kanye's comment was so

Kanye's comment was so uncalled for, but luckily the music industry is still supportive and Beyonce let Taylor Swift enjoy her award. It's a shame that freedom of speech is exercised that way, but at least Taylor Swift is very successful and can comfortably enjoy her fame now.

Happy Ending

I couldn't believe that this actually happened. I really admire what beyonce did later at the awards show, giving Taylor time to give her speech.

Mhm... Though I was

Mhm... Though I was suspicious as to how Taylor was already backstage -- like how Beyonce already knew that she was going to win for VOTY.
