Okay, kids, it’s time to put away your summer dresses and swimwear and make room in your closet for some of this fall’s hottest styles. As summer oh-so-quickly fades into autumn, you need to know what’s going to get you noticed as you cruise through those freshly waxed hallways. Take note: 80’s inspired pieces continue to be the bee’s knees in teen trends (we’re even talking shoulder pads!).
Shoes
They say that when the economy crashes, women’s heels get higher – and that’s certainly the case this fall. Stilettos, chunky heels and platforms are all the rage and come in a variety of textures and colours. Try a Victorian-inspired lace-up shoe with cut outs – your feet won’t get cold if you take part in the trend of wearing opaque hose under these perforated styles.
Jeans
It’s no doubt the skinny jean has lasted longer expected. For now, it shows no signs of letting up, as it’s still a hot item for both guys and girls. A newer trend among girls though is the boyfriend jeans. It first appeared just as girls wearing their boyfriends’ pants but it now has become its own cut in the fashion industry.

Colours
A really hot summery colour has made its way onto the fall fashion must-have list. Yellow is the newest of trends coming out for the fall season along with black, metallic, grey, blue and darker reds. Think 80s when it comes to colours and you can’t go wrong (or can you?).
Hair
Remember when I said fall fashion was inspired by the 80s? Brace yourself, because it applies to hair too. For girls, fringes, asymmetrical cuts and volume are going to be huge (how 80s, indeed!). Boys can look forward to a more rocker look with short cuts coming in at centre stage.
Whatever’s in style, make sure to make it your own. The 80s were about expressing your individuality and bringing something new to the table. Have fun with your look and don’t be afraid to mix it up!
