How to Make Attainable New Year's Resolutions

Each and every year, thousands of people make New Year's resolutions in hopes of making the coming year better. These resolutions can range from dramatic, life-changing goals to simple, everyday routine changes. While making the goal is easy, sticking to it is not. Many resolutions are abandoned just weeks into the new year, their owners failing in their attempts at change.

There are ways to make a New Year's resolution last though. The first step is not to make unrealistic goals. This is just setting yourself up for failure. Make goals that are not outlandish and obscure, but are practical and within your reach. That way, you know that you haven't set an impossible task for yourself.

The second step is to make a plan of action. How are you going to achieve your goal? If you break your target down into smaller steps, it's easier to see how you'll reach your final goal. That way, you just need to concentrate on one step at a time, not the whole plan. It's also good at this point to write down your resolution and the plan of action. This list will help you to not forget the steps or have to remember every little detail of the whole picture.

Third, get support from others. Doing anything alone is hard, but if there is someone supporting you the whole way, it makes things a lot easier. Even better, if you and one of your supporters have made the same goal, help each other out. Talk to each other about how your plan of action is going, what is working, what's not and what changes you've made to your overall resolution. You will not want to let down your partner, so you'll try harder, which in turn makes it more likely that you'll achieve your goal.

Making resolutions are a great idea, but they need to be achieved to be effective. Don't be afraid to get help in going for your goal, to write down your plan and the steps that you'll use to get there and setting smaller, yet more realistic goals. This way, your goals will be accomplished and you'll be a better person for it in the new year.
