You Are Never Too Old for Camp

Every year, without fail, I was in a summer camp. Crafts, canoeing, campfires… I did it all. Many of my favourite summer memories were made at camp, a place where I could learn and grow. It disappoints me that I’m too old to be a camper anymore, but I’m still going to camp this summer. I’m just going to be on the other side of things.

I’m a camp counsellor and love every minute of my job. What is better than still being able go to camp, play the games, make the crafts and get paid to do it? And if you like working with kids, it’s a dream come true.
Being a camp counsellor gives you the opportunity to give children the same great experience that you had when you were a camper. Giving back the joy and love of a summer filled with discovery and wonder is an amazing opportunity. It allows you to help others grow and flourish, while you’re developing skills such as leadership, time management and problem solving. Further, it’ll give you an appreciation of all the hard work that goes into planning a successful summer camp.

Being behind the scenes and seeing just how much time and organization that goes into a summer camp is jaw dropping. There is so much work to be done, so much preparation that often goes unnoticed by the campers. Most camp counsellors are quiet passionate people who love working with kids. They are there to help make the most of the summer for these younsters. They are truly the heroes of summer.

So if you love going to summer camp, but are getting older, think about becoming a camp counsellor. Help make someone else’s summer just as special as yours were.
