Get More Cash for the Busy Season

As the holiday season arrives, many retail stores are in search of extra help to deal with the surge of holiday shoppers. Extra cash is especially great during this season if you’re thinking of buying gifts all around, so grab your resumé, follow these tips and get job hunting!

Watch for signs
While Christmas shopping in the mall, keep an eye out for “Help Wanted” or “Now Hiring” signs – they could be your open opportunity for a winter job. Always keep a resumé on hand. That way you can shop and try for a job, all in one day!

Dress appropriately
Dress for the workplace when handing in your resumé. A polished look will improve your chances of getting hired. Ask for the manager and make sure to let them know your availability. Not many people are willing to work Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. Offering to work at least one of those four days makes you look like a committed and hardworking person. And who doesn’t want that?

Snag a temp job!

From personal experience working in a clothing retail store, businesses are always looking for temporary employees to cover the busy season. Retail is a huge industry, and busy times offer great opportunities to students just looking for a part time, temporary job. Research stores such as HMV and Aritzia, which hire seasonal staff, and you could be on your way to a sweet holiday job.

Turn your job into something permanent
Temporary jobs rather than part-time seasonal positions are great as well because they allow you to explore the many workplace options out there. Permanent positions may even become available after being hired on a temporary basis if you’ve proven that you’re a hard worker and a team player.

The holiday season offers loads of opportunities and places to make some extra cash. So instead of sitting at home and eating more gingerbread cookies, go out there and make some money!
