5 Tips to Survive Back-to-School Anxiety

Many students fret over going back to school for weeks leading up to September. Each year brings about its own set of worries, but it’s how you deal with your anxieties that makes the difference. Here are five tips to help you ease out of your summer and survive back-to-school.

Go to bed early and eat a healthy breakfast.
Walking in nourished, refreshed and attentive when you start the school year is sure to shake some of your worries.

Exercise!
Even if you’re not a fitness buff, exercise is a great tool for relieving stress. Whether it’s hitting the gym for a few hours or playing Frisbee with a friend, exercise is a great anxiety-busting tool.

Express yourself.
For some people, the best way to deal with an issue is to talk it out. As a student, there are many resources you can pull from! Parents, friends and counsellors – they’re all there to help you and make sure your school experience is as comfortable as possible!

Stick with friends for support.
School, especially the first day, is always better with a friend or two. Eventually, your social life will expand as you become more comfortable and confident in the school environment. Until then, rely on the buddy system.

Cut back on work hours.
The first two weeks of school are pretty hectic, especially if you’re moving to a new school. Ask your boss if they can decrease your hours for those two weeks, so you can get used to your new environment. Most bosses will understand.
