Words of Wisdom: Coping with Winter Stress

As I look outside, the leaves are gone and there’s a chill in the air. Winter’s fast approaching and with it are some interesting challenges as we cope with busy schedules and wacky weather. Here are several tips to help you manage during the dark months.

Beat the Blues
The cold weather and short days can be a bit depressing at times, so it’s important to try and beat those winter blahs somehow. Why not bundle up and go for a walk in the snow?

Find Some Balance

Finding balance is easier said than done as you deal with the pressure of school, and juggle the demands of friends, family and perhaps a part-time job. However, taking some time every day just for yourself can be important in helping deal with stress.

Go on an Imaginary Adventure
We may not all be able to jet away to a hot and sunny place this winter, but we can all snuggle up with a good book. Turn off the TV and computer for a while and read away the chilly evenings.

Join a Club

If homework and exams are getting you down these days, why not try something new? Some of my happiest and most successful students are involved in volunteering, debating, singing and performing.

Family Comes First
The holidays mean that sometimes you may find yourself with a family obligation that you don’t care to be part of. For the sake of keeping family harmony, remind yourself that these social events are probably very important to your parents, especially at this time of the year.

Great tips! I find being in

Great tips! I find being in the midst of all this gloomy Vancouver weather, people do tend to get down, myself being no exception. It's definitely nice to finally relax and spend time with the family after the work and weariness that fall brings.
