Naivete

New York:
a rich tapestry of culture and obscure
beings. Only while immersed in this concrete
labyrinth would someone feel so cinematically
interesting. A snapshot from a romantic comedy.
New York, the hub of American creativity,
the catalyst of modernity.
The people, a rich compost of character.
Lonely poets, starving painters, and naive businessmen,
all on the same subway or skytrain:
Lunacy via Grand Central Station.
Eloquently versed mothers, their teens on their hip,
each pounding away at Facebook on their Blackberries.
Lonely women who let out a quiet sob
as they ride the rails of insanity.
Each asking themselves the same question:
What if?
What if I choose not to exit the train,
continue on to bigger and better things?
Is there bigger? Is there better?
Then they step off at seclusion,
wondering where the next train leads.
