Immobile, I wait
For my puppeteer to pull me on
Over feet then calves, knees, thighs then hips
Until I rest in my appointed domain
I go where you go
We travel as one, running and leaping up stairs
Bumping and grinding to the melodious beats
Hips sway
I’ve been torn, patched, grass-stained, spilt upon and used as a napkin
Tailored, washed and accidentally put in the dryer only to be taken out and hugged to a regretful chest
I embrace your every curve and am only warmed by the heat that you provide my cold denim swath
I’m the one who witnessed your first kiss and what you swore would be your only mistake
You grow up and leave me behind but can’t bare to throw me out
So I patiently sit in your closet, next to the new jeans you brought home
But I know soon enough you’ll come back to me, if only to see if we still fit together as perfectly as before.
