10 Tips to Help You Get Ready For School

Make back-to-school time easier with these words of advice!

It’s that time of the year again. The good days of summer are dead and gone. What’s ahead is uncertain and disconcerting. But have no fear, we’ve conjured up a list of 10 things to help you get back to school! We guarantee that you’ll feel more confident and actuated after reading this article.

1. Adjust your sleep pattern!

All you night crawlers out there, it’s time to poke your heads out and greet the rising sun. We know all too well that you’ve been up past midnight and waking up at noon all summer. Tsk tsk tsk.

2. Effective note-taking.

Essential additions to your basic pen, pencil and paper note-taking supplies include vibrant highlighters, rainbow page markers and coloured pens! Not only will colour-coding make your notes look more attractive, it also helps a great deal with memorization.

3. Watch movies!

Yes, we know that you like this item on our list. But seriously, watching high-school movies is a great way to get back in the mood for school! Check out our movie recommendations to get you in the mood for school.

4. Rig your graphing calculators!

Go back to those math classes armed with a newly updated TI-83. Go on the Texas Instruments website, and while you’re downloading applications and programs, don’t forget to download addicting games as well!

5. Get your eyes checked.

Are those R’s starting to look like P’s? Are you squinting constantly in class? Then, my friend, a vision check might be due in your future! Make sure that you go back to school with perfect vision, even if it means wearing a pair of nerdy glasses. Hey, at least you’ll look smart.

6. Sticky notes. Use them.

We can’t even begin tell you how beneficial sticky notes are. Multi-coloured organization is the key to success. We’ve fallen in love with sticky notes, and we’re sure you will too!

7. Remember your bus pass!

Avoid putting yourself in the situation where you cross the yellow line, board the Skytrain, and then, upon seeing a Translink ticket-checker, suddenly realize that you haven’t bought a ticket. At this point, unfortunately our advice column here ceases to be of much use to you. Just avoid eye contact and as inconspicuously as possible, tiptoe away in the other direction. Meanwhile, try not to think too much about that gun holster he’s carrying.

8. Keep hydrated!

This school year, choose an eco-friendly and healthy way of carrying your water. Instead of using plastic water bottles, opt for BPA-free stainless steel.

9. Peanut butter kills.

Remember that. Many of your fellow students have peanut allergies so be considerate, conscious and careful if you're bringing a PB & J samich to school.

10. Pack a healthy lunch.

Although tip number nine (and the safety of classmates) may prevent you from bringing a yummy peanut butter and jam sandwich for lunch, there are still plenty of options for a healthy, delicious and protein-packed lunch! For example, why not try making whole wheat, avocado and egg sandwiches?
