When Katy Perry released her controversial breakthrough single I Kissed a Girl in 2008, house parties as we knew them changed. Whenever the hit single radiated from the speakers, some girls – girls of all ages – would turn to their nearest friend and show that they too “kissed a girl and liked it.” But the main reason that these girls decided to make out with their friends was of course, to fulfill the fantasies of the males that stood around them.
These girls have now made a name for themselves, since they are not truly lesbians, they have attained the name LUGS. L.U.G.S stands for lesbians until graduation. So, why do these girls feel that the only way to receive attention from the opposite sex is to make out with the same sex? And how does this make girls who are truly lesbians feel?
Personally, I feel that LUGS show no self-respect for themselves. A girl should not have to kiss another girl just to please a boy – that’s degrading. Would those same boys make out with their guy friends for the attention of others? Probably not. LUGS should re-evaluate the purpose that they behold because as an outsider looking in, it looks trashy, disgusting and disrespectful.
