Thought the wet winter weather was ruining your life?
Well, spoiling your hair on the way to school can hardly compare to arriving at the Golden Globes clasping onto an umbrella in an attempt to keep your dress dry, your hair immaculate and your makeup from running. This was the case for stars at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards on January 17th in Los Angeles – but with the help of some hefty umbrellas, they did a good job at remaining composed in front of the cameras.
This year’s ceremony saw a trend of strapless and one-shoulder dresses as well as extravagant ruffles. Although many stars kept it safe with classic black, the colours of the night included a princess-y palette of pinks (Christina Aguilera, Diane Kruger, Emily Blunt) and purples in every hue, from Sandra Bullock’s royal purple to Chloe Sevigny’s sooty lavender and Leona Lewis’ girly lilac.
This year was the dressiest we’ve seen in a long time and the stars made it difficult to determine best dressed. However, a few numbers certainly stood out on the red carpet... and others did for all the wrong reasons.
BEST DRESSED:
Emily Blunt
Emily Blunt was glowing in this pale rose Dolce & Gabbana chiffon gown. To finish the look, she accessorized with two diamond cuff bracelets and a small clutch.

Cameron Diaz
Diaz hit the red carpet in a stunning gown by Alexander McQueen. The dress fit her perfectly and the colour made her eyes pop. The small drape at the front adds an elegant detail to a simple dress and Cameron is one of the few people who can make the colour-coordinated umbrella look like the new ‘it’ accessory!

Sandra Bullock
Sandra rocked a gorgeous violet Bottega Venetta gown. The blast of colour, together with dripping earrings and a classy up-do, created a fabulous confident and chic look that enhanced Sandra’s beauty.

WORST DRESSED:
Julianne Moore
Moore’s Balenciaga dress shred fashionistas' hearts to pieces. The dress’ combination of the strapless style and ruffles was its big downfall, second to the cheap-looking dull material. It doesn’t complement her figure; it instead makes the gorgeous redhead look frumpy.
