A few days ago, I was invited to participate in Group Therapy at Dermalogica's Dermal Institute. Attendees consisted of Vancouver's beauty bloggers, and we all had so much fun slapping delicious products all over our faces while snacking on delectable desserts!
Being the only teen blogger of the bunch, I was quickly introduced to Dermalogica's Clean Start line, a skin care system aimed at teens during this very hard time for our epidermis. Their goal is to help youth make good choices when it comes to skin, because too often products made for teens are loaded with harsh ingredients and artificial colours. When I was told right away that artificial fragrances weren't used, the first thing I thought was that everything wouldn't smell that pleasant, but boy was I wrong!
Every product I tested smelled amazing, with fresh bursts of lemongrass, orange and cooling cucumber. This line of skin care goes green by using ingredients from renewable sources, recyclable packaging and boasting an anti-animal testing badge. It was clear that, unlike most teen lines, Clean Start focuses less on acne removal and more on how to keep skin fresh and healthy.
From sampling the Clean Start line, I learned that there are 3 steps to healthy skin:
1) Getting Clean. Consists of Wash Off foaming wash for not only face, but back and chest that clears trapped oils, and All Over Clear mist that hydrates.
2) Taking On Issues. This step means conquering all problems efficiently, with Ready, Set, Scrub! masque/scrub to fight breakouts, and Bedtime for Breakouts to get rid of below-the-surface monsters.
3) Protecting Skin. After cleaning and treating, it's important to put a jacket over your new, healthy skin. Moisturizers come in a matte or shimmer for preference, and contain spf15 that is essential for defense against harmful UV rays.
Everything was surprisingly lightweight and easy to use. Like Youthink, this line was created by-teens-for-teens when Dermalogica used their own group of teen experts to create the best look and feel for the line.
It may be too early to say, but after two days of using Clean Start, my face feels healthier and more like me. With such a dedication to training teens about treating our skin wonderfully, I applaud Dermalogica and thank them for a wonderful convention!
