Sunglasses: The Hottest Styles of the Summer

The hottest sunglasses trends.

You may remember a time when you teasingly called a friend “four-eyes” for wearing glasses. Well these days, it no longer has to be an insult. In fact, you might just want to race over to the nearest optician’s and pick up a pair yourself, regardless of if you need them or not. The trends in eyeglasses for 2009 are fresh, vibrant and above all recognizable – creativity and originality will be setting a new standard for eyewear.

Plastic Framed Sunglasses
With thick bold-coloured frames, this trend has definitely made its way from the 1970s to today’s must-have fashion accessory. Although the trend originally was more prominent in sunglasses, plastic frames have played such a key role in this year’s fashion that more and more of them have started to emerge as prescription glasses.

With African and geometric designs back in action, the tortoise shell too stands as an exotic trend. These lightweight frames are a popular choice for women, and are a great match to any spring outfit. Look for deep, mature colours such as browns, reds and blacks to dominate this year’s tortoise trend.

Bejewelled Sunglasses
This unique detailing often found in many designer frames has become one of the most popular among today’s teenagers. These details on the sideframe, such as designer logos, cutouts, jewels and rhinestones, spice-up even the simplest of frames, conveying a sense of masculinity or femininity, depending on the detailing.
