Fall 2008 runways have set bold standards for this season's hairdos, including pixie cuts, wild curls and asymmetrical shags. Bold as the styles may be, limited they are not. We've already seen stars Rihanna and Katie Holmes support the blunt bob look, while Blake Lively takes on soft, face-framing layers. But which looks dominate right here at home?
I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to visit the John Casablancas Institute for a fall makeover. My wonderful student hairstylist Simmii began by trimming my bouncy curls. "Curly hair usually gets wispy at the ends, so this helps to give it a more solid look when we style it," she explained. She then blow-dried my hair using a round brush, and created loose locks of curls using a curling iron. The locks were rolled, and fastened temporarily to my head with pins. "The pin-curls are going to give you a nice wave, some volume, and a much slicker look than just blow-drying it."
Choosing green and yellow eye shadows to coincide with fall colours, my makeup artist Balpreet set to work. She used green liner to define my eyes and yellow liner in the corners to brighten them up. Before putting on foundation, she applied a primer to, "help control shine and make the foundation last longer." The finishing touches were a splash of pink lip-gloss, some highlighter on the cheekbones, and bronzer under the jaw line and around the temples.
My fabulous fall fashion look was complete, but I couldn't help but ask what the most desired style is for this fall. "A lot of people ask for big hair, so we do plenty of backcombing and blowouts," Simmii answered.
Having been thoroughly spoiled and glammed up for the season, I left John Casablancas with a bold new look that I would never have dared to attempt to achieve on my own!
