5 Simple Steps to Starting a New Club at School

If you have considered the clubs and organizations your school has had to offer, yet haven't found anything that truly excites you, you may want to consider forming your own school club. To turn this idea into a reality, follow these five simple steps:

1. The first step is the most important. Come up with a good idea. Try to find something you are passionate about. Do you love reading? Drawing? What about a cartooning club, a book group or even a YouTube club! Create the type of club that you and others would enjoy.

2. After you have decided what you would like to do, find others who are willing to help you. Start talking to your friends and scout out who may be interested in joining. It is best to gather a large variety of people, in order to create a diverse and intriguing atmosphere, as well as spawn different views and opinions. This would also be an apt time to seek out a teacher willing to supervise and to find out if there will be any costs incurred (how will you get the funds?). You need to find out this info before you proceed. You can then delegate duties and "positions" so to speak.

3. Next, it would be wise to decide whether your club should run through one semester or throughout the whole school year. Then, start to generate ideas as to how you will publicize it. Why not approach the school newspaper (if there is no newspaper, how about starting one?) or the office or even create posters or flyers in order to get the word out.

4. Next, it would be advisable to decide on a meeting time and place. Obviously, the most convenient place would be school. Most schools will allow a student group to use a classroom or a meeting room for its assembly. Lunch may not be long enough to cover everything you want, and early Monday mornings may not be ideal.

5. Once you have all the details covered, it would be sensible to approach a school administrator to discuss your plan.

With six months left in the school year, there's still plenty of time to start a new club. High school can be a lot more fun when you're involved, and starting a club is a great way to do that!
