Twi-Moms Back Off, Edward Cullen is Ours!

Imagine this: you’re sitting in a movie theatre, watching the latest Twilight movie… suddenly Edward Cullen appears, and all around you hear the eruption of excited cheers coming from pre-teens, teens… and moms? No, you’re not imagining things. This may very well be what your trip to the movie theatres to see New Moon will entail.

They call themselves Twi-Moms, in fact there’s a whole website dedicated to mothers who are just as obsessed with Twilight (if not more) than your next-door 14-year-old neighbour is. Twilight make-up lines, events, contests and forums are just a few of the goodies that this site provides. It brings the concept of fan to a whole new level, if you ask me.

Who is your Twilight soulmate or personality match? Take the quiz!

Now, being a 17-year-old girl and a slight Twilight fan myself, I can understand why the saga would appeal to a wide range of audiences. Hey, I mean Harry Potter appealed to adults, so why not Twilight as well? But here’s something that makes me cringe. A few months ago, while New Moon was filming in Vancouver and teen girls in the region were chaotically searching for the cast, instead of participating in the seemingly pointless search, I decided to go on Facebook – and what did I come across? Well, apparently a 37-year-old relative of mine (and a mother of two) had begun a very dedicated search for Edward Cullen along with her other Twi-mom friends. And let me tell you, they were very dedicated! There were daily reports of the status of her journey all across the Lower Mainland, and, after a few weeks of searching, she not only got a picture with the lovely Robert Pattinson (apparently they found him behind a bar at 4 am one night), she also got an article written about her.

Now, I don’t know about you, but personally I think this is a little outrageous. It’s great to like a series of books/movies, but to be an adult (they’re supposed to be busy, or at least that’s what I heard) and a mother and somehow find the time to spend hours a day chasing after a fictitious character is a little beyond me. All I have to say is I really hope all this Edward obsession dies down a bit, otherwise before we know it they’ll start having Twi-Baby daycare centres.

I agree with the

I agree with the outrageousness of it all. There was an article in the local newspaper in my hometown saying that Robert Pattinson was spotted walking around and women went wild looking for him. My first thought (since I live in a small town) was "Why would he come here of all places?". Then I realized it was probably because he was trying to get away from all the Twi-moms in Vancouver, and after this article, I really can't blame him.

Haha that's so cool
