10 Tips for Stress-Free Travel

You’re busy freaking out the day before your flight, you have no idea what to bring and your suitcase is overflowing with clothes. If this sounds like you, then a small list with tips on how to travel and what to bring is just the thing you need to achieve complete serenity and peace with yourself – and your luggage.

10. Make a list
So many people fail to do this and believe me – the consequences are huge. You’ll almost always end up forgetting something and realize what it is when you’re already seated on the plane, headed towards your destination. If you make the list on your computer, you’ll have it every time you travel and will only need to make updates rather than start from scratch.

9. Remember the basics

You’ll want to kick yourself if you don’t. The basics are easy to remember and are all hygienic. Toothpaste, toothbrush, hair equipment, soap, shampoo, and a towel are all you need to insure you’re clean and ready to get on with your day.

8. Pack lightly

Don’t pack a bunch of things that you don’t need. Your suitcase will go from the trunk of your car, to the airport, tossed onto a carousel, stuffed in a taxi, lugged up stairs, and placed on your dresser. Leave the bowling ball at home.

7. Split up the clothes
If you have more than one suitcase, make sure to place half of your clothes in one bag, and half in the other. This way, if one of your bags gets lost or misplaced, you don’t have to run out and buy an entire new wardrobe.

6. Put toiletries in a plastic bag
So many times have I seen perfumes and toothpaste thrown in the trash at the airport while security checks through your stuff. Always make sure to place it in a plastic or zip lock bag before you go through security. They do this because they don’t know what kinds of liquids you’re carrying in your bag.

5. Try not to look like a tourist
Prior to arriving at your given destination, make sure not to make a big fool of yourself for establish yourself as a tourist too much. Don’t carry around maps looking perplexed because you’re bound to receive unwanted attention.

4. Do NOT pull out large amounts of money!
I cannot stress this tip any more than I already have. Taking out massive amounts of cash from your pocket is a huge red flag and you’re bound to end up getting mugged. Just don’t do it.

3. Make friends with the locals
Make sure to do this; it’ll help you along the way to find great deals and places that you wouldn’t otherwise find in a guidebook or at a hotel.

2. Remember a passport!

You won’t be able to go anywhere without one. It’s also one of the only forms of I.D. you should be bringing along with you so keep it safe.

1. Relax
Congrats! You’re done packing and sooner or later you’ll be having the time of your life wherever you chose to go. Remember to have fun and don’t forget to relax.
