13 Reasons to Look Forward to Back-to-School

Now that you’ve had about a week to wrap your heads around being back at school, all I can say is that it’s not all doom and gloom! So, whether this is your last year of high school, or you’re just starting your five years of higher learning, here is a list of the top 13 things to look forward to now that the summer is over.

1. You have the opportunity to learn.

Any opportunity to exercise your mind and fill it with valuable knowledge and interesting information is never a bad thing. After all, that is what school is about.

2. You are a grade older.

Yay! You are moving up in the world. If you were in grade 8 last year, you’re no longer the new kid – and grade 12s, you are now kings and queens of the castle!

3. It’s a good time for change.

A new school year brings with it a chance to change anything you feel needs to change. There were probably things you wished you would have done differently last year, like spending more time studying for those tests, or asking that special someone to have lunch with you. Now’s your chance!

4. You get to see your favourite teachers.

Every student has at least a few teachers they really like. Building solid relationships with teachers isn’t always an easy thing for students, but there are always ones who you get along with and who just make going to school a blast. That might sound strange, but it’s true.

5. You can make new friends.

Expand your social group. Whether it’s meeting the new kid at school or taking classes with someone you grew apart from, the new year brings the possibility of creating new friendships. Ah, the magic of school!

6. You’ve got the chance to focus on yourself.

Start fresh and be you, the true you. Now is the perfect opportunity to explore what you want in life and make it happen. It’s time to march to the beat of your own drum!

7. You can change up your style.

Do you feel like taking a risk? If you’re tired of the same old look, a new school year is the best time to introduce the new you to the world. So be brave and be bold. Don’t worry: your friends will let you know if you make the wrong decisions!

8. You can share summer stories.

Hear about what your friends got up to this summer and share what you did. By sharing stories, you may learn about trips and activities that you’d like to try out for next summer.

9. It’s a good opportunity to try new sports, hobbies and activities.

Join a new club, a new team or start a new activity... you may end up enjoying yourself. If you have always just focused on the books, the new school year is the right time to take a new approach.

10. It’s a good excuse to go shopping.

Whether it’s finding out you need more school supplies or realizing the clothes you have just won’t cut it, you’ll have good reasons to go to the mall. How can your parents say “no?” Just make sure you do your homework first... or finish it when you get home. Either way works when you think about it!

11. You get to see your old friends.

You haven’t been able to see all your friends over the summer and you’ve probably missed them! But now you’re all in the same place again – school allows you to reconnect.

12. You can make new memories.

A new year brings with it the opportunity to make new memories. You never know what exciting things might happen this year.

13. You’re one year closer to freedom.

You’re that much closer to graduating and look at things from this perspective: summer vacation is already one week closer than last week!
