When the countdown to prom begins, life has never been so hectic for Danny Stein.
What’s the Story?
Choosing a prom date for Danny Stein isn't easy when he isn't doing any of the choosing what with parents who "always know best," the unwanted input of friends and the pressures of high school always intervening. The typical quirky prom movie of 2009 brings us the usual dorky high school humour, dealing with the dreaded every day problems of being a teenager.
Why see it?
Kaplan, who plays Danny, shows us prom from the loser’s perspective and helps us find humour in our daily dramas. If you think you're family is embarrassing just wait until you meet the Steins, it will give your parents some justice. Director and writer Brian Hecker gives us the do's and dont's of preparing for our own high school prom.
Problems?
If you like movies that keep you at the edge of your seat you should skip Bart Got a Room. Over the course of 80 minutes, the movie lacked a climax and thrills. The basic plot left little room for any twists and unexpected turns. While the movie was good for some laughs it lacked the substance that some people need while watching movies to keep them interested. In the future, if Hecker were to add more complexity into the story line, the movie may be more compelling.
All in all:
Even though the storyline is a little dry and predictable, the entertainment value is reasonable.
