How far would you go to protect your free will?
Possession is told through the eyes of Violet Schoenfeld, a rebellious teenager living in a futuristic world that is controlled by a dominating group of leaders called the Thinkers. Unlike most of the others living under the strict conditions of the Thinkers, Vi refuses to conform, deliberately breaking rules in an effort to think for herself. But the Thinkers are set on making Vi become one of them and they begin to target her, starting by brainwashing her best friend Zenn.
Although Violet doesn’t want to stand by while the Thinkers influence Zenn, she is reluctant to join the uprising against the them. Vi must make a choice that could alter the future of the nation the Thinkers have created.
While the idea behind Possession promises an exceptional dystopian novel, the book suffers because of the recurring confusing parts. I found myself re-reading pages and trying to keep up with the storyline more than once.
The strength in ths novel lies in the characterization. The characters are all wonderfully crafted and unique. They are presented in a way that make the reader feel close to them.
Overall, I think fans of The Hunger Games and other dystopian novels will enjoy Possession for the futuristic and romantic qualities it possesses (no pun intended).
