Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1, illustrated and adapted by Young Kim

Admit it: we all pictured Edward in our minds before the movie – and whether or not you believe Pattinson is the perfect epitome of Edward, this new graphic novel will show the characters in a completely new way, frame by frame.

This is a novel that fuses Asian and Western comic techniques on paper with a page or two of colour (blood red, perhaps?).

The first of the two volumes introduces key events in parallel with the novel – which is no surprise considering Stephanie Meyer was behind the making of this volume.

To me, the major negative issue about graphic novels lies in their failure to translate images into emotions. Often when you engage in the art, you lose the message, which is the essence of a novel. For instance, Bella’s complicated feelings are portrayed in a simple frame when in reality the message is much deeper.

In contrast to the original, the graphic novel contains just the bare bones of the plotline.
