Here at Youthink Magazine we believe that it is important not to forget the classics. Today, we get so caught up in the up-and-coming, that we've forgotten where it all came from. So here's a list of some of the classic movies and music from the 80s!

Movies:
Sixteen Candles
A teen classic for
every generation.

Release Date: May 4th, 1984
Stars: Molly Ringwald, Michael Schoeffling
Samantha Baker (Ringwald) should be enjoying her sweet 16 birthday, but since the preparations for her sister's wedding began, her family seems to have forgotten all about her milestone celebration. In addition to her week being tainted by the lack of b-day recognition, Samantha has also developed a crush on the most popular guy in school Jake Ryan (Schoeffling), who just happens to be dating the most beautiful girl in school. As the story progresses, Samantha encounters some major embarrassments, including one particular occasion involving a crowd of nerds and her panties. This classic teen focused romantic comedy is said to be one of John Hughes' best productions of the 80s.

The Breakfast Club
Another 80's teen must-see from John Hughes.
Release Date: February 15th, 1985
Starring: Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez
The Breakfast Club is a timeless teen tale of five complete opposites who discover they have more in common then they had originally assumed. The five students, including a jock (Estevez), a geek (Michael Hall), a Prom Queen (Ringwald), an oddball (Sheedy) and a degenerate (Nelson) are all required to spend their Saturday afternoon writing an essay for their principal (Paul Gleason) in detention. Initially, the group clashes; each student falls under the category of a different stereotype; how could they have anything in common? But over the course of the day, they begin to see things through one another's eyes, learning more and more about each other. Try this classic next time you rent a flick, it might just change your life forever.

Music:
Salt n' Pepa
Album: Hot, Cool and Vicious
Release Date: 1987
This all-girl rap/hip-hop group broke ground in the mid-80s with this, their first album. Hot, Cool and Vicious was taken to platinum status when Cameron Paul, a San Fransisco DJ and producer remixed one of their tracks, Push It, making it a hit single and helping to push the album to the top of the dance and hip-hop charts. After the release of their first album, Salt n' Pepa continued to produce several other successful albums into the new millennium. Try this energetic album or their greatest hits album released in 2000 Salt n' Pepa: The Best Of.

Rick Springfield
Album: Working Class Dog
Release Date: 1981
The successes of the Australian-born pop rock singer Rick Springfield hit an all-time high in 1981 with the release of his fifth album Working Class Dog. This Grammy award-winning album reached multi-platinum status with the amazing achievement of the hit single Jessie's Girl. The original version of the album featured 10 tracks including Love Is Alright Tonight, I've Done Everything For You and, of course, Jessie's Girl. This compilation of high-energy, toe-tapping tracks and slower soulful songs with the occasional, very much appreciated instrumental solo tells us exactly why this album has claimed its well deserved multi-platinum status. If you've heard and enjoyed Jessie's Girl we're positive that you'll love this classic album.
