Empty by Suzanne Weyn

3 stars

It’s not the apocalypse, but it’s the end of the world as we know it.

Empty is a book about what could happen if we are not careful about how we manage our fossil fuels - how every small thing can snowball into a giant mess. The message is good, reminding us to be aware of the consequences of our actions. However, the plot line is quite far-fetched, much like The Day After Tomorrow. The existence of a super-hurricane, a secret Green Model Home under a cave, and a quick 360 turn from oil guzzling leeches to tree-hugging hippies makes for a story that pushes the limits of believability, and thus makes this novel one that is hard to fathom with a rational mind.
