Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

4 stars

A predictable yet sweet romantic comedy.

Rating:
PG
Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Michael Douglas

What’s the story?

Connor Mead (McConaughey) has been jumping from girl to girl ever since he was first left on the dance floor by his friend Jenny (Garner) way back in middle school. Back then, his Uncle Wayne (Douglas), whom he was living with at the time, taught him how to make sure he never got hurt by a girl again. Years later, when his little brother’s wedding rolls around, Connor has had more girlfriends than he can count and thinks his brother is making a huge mistake. The night before his brother’s wedding, his Uncle Wayne comes to him from the dead, bringing along with him the ghosts of Connor’s girlfriends – past, present and future. Between seeing ghosts and ruining his brother’s wedding, Connor learns that by living the life he is living, he will end up alone and unloved…

Why see it?

This funny twist on a classic Christmas story (Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, if you hadn’t already figured it out) captures the viewer’s attention. This witty romantic comedy is great for anyone who is looking for a good laugh.

Problems?
This movie is very predictable and there are no plot twists to keep the audience guessing. From the moment the first girlfriend ghost showed up, I knew how the movie was going to end.

All in All:
A funny romantic spoof of a classic Christmas tale.
