What's the story?
When Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman), an English aristocrat, flies to Australia on the brink of WWII to meet up with her husband, she meets Mr. Drover (Hugh Jackman), a rough and tough cattle driver who works for her husband. Upon arriving at the old rundown ranch, she is informed that her husband has been murdered, and that she has inherited the land. To save Faraway Ranch, Drover and Sarah must set aside their differences, and herd cattle all the way to Darwin.
Why see it?
Director Baz Lurhmann brings his talent and versatility to this epic action/romance movie. The film crosses into a few different genres. It is a historical drama, but it also incorporates some comedy, action and romance. If you're male and you have your doubts about the movie, even you won't be disappointed as there are some marvelous action scenes that will keep your blood pumping until the end. The movie was filmed entirely in the rugged territory of northern Australia so there are many captivating scenes featuring indigenous animals such as kangaroos and crocodiles. Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman do a remarkable job, and it doesn't hurt that they are both Aussie natives.
Problems?
As amazing as the movie is, its one noticeable flaw is that it's long. Rolling for 165 minutes (for non-math people out there, that's nearly three hours), the movie just keeps going, but luckily the plot is good.
All in all:
Kidman and Jackman do their homeland proud in this epic drama.
