What's the story?
Set in 1920's Los Angeles, Changeling recounts the real-life story of Christine Collins (Jolie), who, after her son goes missing for months, is given back the wrong child. Knowing that the child is not hers, she pleads for help from the officer in charge of missing-child cases, but to no avail. Instead, the police attempts to convince her that the boy is in fact her son, and that she should simply let the matter die. With the help of a well-known reverend (Malkovich), Christine embarks on a legal journey - one that will rock the L.A. legal system.
Why see it?
A compelling drama, Changeling offers a strong, interesting plot. Director Clint Eastwood demonstrates his talent for crafting a detailed story that keeps the audience drawn in until the very end by keeping the environment true to the era and including a simple, but powerful score that underlines the emotions of the film. Angelina Jolie brings a raw honesty to her portrayal of Christine, presenting a beautiful performance that's already earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
Problems?
If you aren't a fan of intense drama, this film is not for you. Also, some scenes in the film involving a mental institution are quite disturbing.
All in All:
Clint Eastwood has done it again. This is an emotional and breathtaking film that will surely live on among the classics.
Compelling
Love, love, looooved this movie. It was so touching and heart-breaking...I cannot believe that it is based on a true story.
...and may I add that Angelina Jolie looked beautiful, as usual. A little skinny, but still beautiful.
