Rating: PG
Stars: Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth, Greg Kinnear
What’s the story?
Written by acclaimed romance novelist Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, A Walk To Remember), The Last Song depicts a story of romance, forgiveness and life’s many tragedies. Veronica “Ronnie” Miller (Cyrus) is a rebellious teenage musical prodigy who’s forced to spend the summer with her estranged father in his hometown in Georgia. In hopes of reconnecting with his daughter, Steve (Kinnear) learns the magnitude of how much his divorce with his wife had an affect on his daughter. On the upside, Ronnie meets and begins to fall in love with Will Blakelee (Hemsworth), the popular and handsome volleyball player in town.
Why see it?
A change of pace from her previous Disney projects, Miley Cyrus proves she has the potential to blossom into a strong dramatic actress. Fans of Hannah Montana can expect a more serious Miley as her character explores more raw emotions in this film. Sparks creates a story that draws the audience in, allowing them to relate to emotions of heartache and love whether they’ve experienced it first-hand or not. Jonah, played by Bobby Coleman, is an absolute standout in the film. If you’re a fan of The Notebook and A Walk To Remember, this is definitely a film to check out.
Problems
Many of the scenes are quite choppy, making it a little confusing to follow, especially if you haven’t read the novel. People who are prone to crying and aren’t up for a tear-jerker should stay away from this movie.
All in all
A perfect movie to go to with your girlfriends or significant other.
