Magic happens in the City of Love when you least expect it.
What's the story?
Gil (Wilson) and Inez (McAdams) are a wealthy American couple visiting Paris for the first time before their wedding. Unfortunately, they soon discover that their many differences are threatening to break them apart as Gil is a hopeless dreamer and Inez is all too firmly grounded in practicalities. One evening, in an attempt to to avoid another night out with Inez's suffocating friend Paul (Sheen), who happens to also be vacationing in Paris, Gil decides to walk back to his hotel on his own. During his stroll an interesting encounter leads Gil to discover a mysterious secret about the City of Love, one that will shake his beliefs and change how he views the world forever.
Why see it? Midnight in Paris is a subtle, yet hugely entertaining comedy filled to the brim with dry humour. It features a talented cast, is packed with more twists and turns than the streets of Paris itself and is set in one of the most beautiful cities in the world - what’s not to love? This Woody Allen film will certainly not disappoint.
Problems?
More romantically-inclined people might feel a bit disillusioned by the cynical elements in Midnight in Paris. Also, some teens may find the plot a little hard to relate to with the film geared more towards an adult audience.
All in all:
A fantastic movie with lots of laughs and a bittersweet message.
