Scooby Doo: Newcomers Fill The Mystery Machine!

Your all-time favourite detectives and their lovable dog will be making a blast to the past on your TV screens later this month with the newest addition to the handful of Scooby Doo films.

Scooby Doo! The Mystery Begins features the crime fighting group during high school and tells the story of how the gang came together in the first place. So, don’t expect to see the usual cast including Freddie Prince Jr. or Sarah Michelle Gellar because their characters will played by an all new cast. Instead, you will see a group of fresh faces who will bring the original cartoon to life once again.

Robbie Amell, who you might recognize from Life With Derek, plays a brunette version of Fred and Kate Melton plays the part of the fashionable Daphne. While Velma, the creator of the infamous phrase “jinkies!” is played by Hayley Kiyoko Alcroft and Nick Palatas plays the perfect version of Shaggy.

In this live action film, the character of Scooby Doo was created digitally, which posed a new challenge for the actors; acting as if Scooby Doo was really there. Nick Palatas shared insight on his experience. “It was quite a challenge. I've always had quite an imagination, but it really pushed all of us to the limits. I remember the hardest time I had, was during the ‘You and I’ montage, because I had to spin around in a circle while pretending to hold hands and spin with Scooby. Not only do I get motion-sick when I spin, but it was like 100 degrees outside that day, I had long sleeves and corduroy pants, and we were doing the shot in slow motion, so I had to step awkwardly. We must have done 20 takes just trying to get my circle right and making it so I looked like I was actually holding Scooby.”

When asked about what it was like to be a part of the Scooby Doo prequel, Kate Melton gave her take on the experience. “It’s great! I always tell Robbie, Hayley and Nick ‘I think we’ve hit the jackpot’ because I think that it’s going to do really well because it’s so iconic. And it’s classic!”

These actors are sure to impress the fans so be sure to check out Scooby Doo! The Mystery Begins on Cartoon Network on September 13th or on DVD on September 22nd!

Scooby...in 3D!

It's kind of hard for me to imagine Scooby Doo as a 3-dimensional character when it's always been a cartoon to me. Looking at the characters makes me feel a little odd too, but we'll see just how this cast plays out!

Again?

I remember the older SD movies, and thought the gang didn't look much like their characters those other times. But I guess it's always kinda tricky to find real-life actors to portray a 2D cartoon person...Scooby rocks either way, tho :)

Robbie is going to make a

Robbie is going to make a great Fred...and Nick embodies Shaggy perfectly! I'm definitely going to catch this flick, usually I'm not happy with cast changes but this group will carry on the classic!
