The Time Traveler’s Wife

4 Stars

Rating: PG
Stars: Rachel McAdams, Eric Bana

Love has many obstacles, but what happens when the obstacle is as big as the ticking of time?

What’s the story?

Henry DeTamble (Bana) is a research librarian who falls in love with artist Clare Abshire (McAdams). Henry has a genetic disorder, which causes him to travel time involuntarily, while Clare’s life takes a natural course. Clare has been irrevocably in love with Henry her whole life – since he travelled to see her frequently from the time she was six – but the two are faced with immense obstacles as Henry can never stay in one point in time for too long. The lovers, who remain passionately in love, are stuck in a heart wrenching romantic trap of time.

Why see it?
Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams both do a sensational job of bringing Audrey Niffenegger’s bestselling novel to the big screen. The movie sends out a traditional message; that love holds no boundaries and that it can resist the test of time. Director Robert Schwentke does an amazing job displaying that Henry and Clare have an impossible, but amazing relationship. If you are fan of such romance movies as The Notebook or P.S. I Love You then you are sure to love this movie.

Problems?
If crying is a problem for you then you may have a difficult time during this movie. I cried for majority of the second half of the film. Also, if you are unfamiliar with the book’s original storyline, you may be confused as to why Henry is in one place in his life one minute and then an entirely different place the next.

All in all:

A movie about great patience, tragic love and the ticking of time – The Time Traveler’s Wife is a must-see.
