Although director Tim Burton has never won a Best Director award at the Oscars, that hasn't stopped people from being huge Tim Burton fans – including me. His first few movies rightly became cult flicks and in the time since, Burton has proved that his directing chops and art design skills never fail to produce the most brilliant films. Here is a list of my five favourite Tim Burton movies.
#5 Alice In Wonderland | 2010

Helena Bonham Carter in Walt Disney Pictures' Alice
in Wonderland
Tim Burton has created a wonderful 3-D world in Alice in Wonderland that would make Lewis Carroll proud. Although the movie is not as dark as Tim Burton fans would have liked it to be, there is plenty to love about this movie, including a great score composed by Danny Elfman.
#4 Beetlejuice | 1998

Michael Keaton in Geffen's Beetlejuice
One of the most original movies ever made, a recently deceased couple hires a ghost named Beetlejuice to exorcise the new owners out of their house. The daughter of the obnoxious new owners, played by Winona Ryder, can see ghosts and upon befriending the ghostly couple, works to stop Beetlejuice before he goes too far.
#3 Edward Scissorhands | 1990

Johnny Depp stars as Edward Scissorhands
Edward Scissorhands marks the first movie that combined the remarkable talents of Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp. Once again featuring an original and unique storyline, Edward Scissorhands tells the story of a man with scissors for hands who falls in love with a beautiful girl and becomes a talented trimmer. Edward's innocence though makes him an easy target in his town and he soon learns about the cruelty of others.
#2 Ed Wood | 1994

Johnny Depp and Martin Landau in Ed Wood
Although Tim Burton's Ed Wood is almost never remembered in the same sentence as Edward Scissorhands or Beetlejuice, Ed Wood is actually a great movie featuring amazing performances from big name actors like Sarah Jessica Parker, Bill Murray and Martin Landau, as well as being the backdrop for one of Johnny Depp's best performances. A movie about a legendary director of terrible movies, Ed Wood is based on a true story.
#1 Sweeney Todd | 2007

Johnny Depp in DreamWorks Pictures' Sweeney Todd:
The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
This bloody musical adaptation is my absolute favourite Tim Burton movie. Once again featuring some of Burton's favourite actors - Johnny Depp and Burton's own partner, Helena Bonham Carter - the movie is about barber Sweeney Todd who lures people into his shop for a haircut, who never end up leaving. Among other things, Sweeney Todd is impressive for its music, art design, cinematography and acting - Depp even won a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his role as Sweeney Todd.
