Suzanne Tenner. Beyoncé Knowles in the thriller "Obsessed."
1 star
You won’t be obsessed with this boring remake.
Rating: 14A
Stars: Beyoncé Knowles, Ali Larter, Idris Elba
What’s the story?
Derek Charles (Elba) is an asset manager who has just received a huge promotion. Derek appears to have everything going for him: a nice house, a nice car and a beautiful wife (Knowles). Things unravel though when Lisa (Larter), the attractive and slightly crazed temporary office worker, begins to stalk him and everything he has worked so hard to achieve is on the line.
Why see it?
Beyoncé fans will enjoy watching the diva duke it out with Larter on the big screen. If you like Ali Larter in Heroes, you’ll probably like her in Obsessed, as her role is quite similar to her character on the popular TV show. And, finally, if you’re looking for a drama involving some major cat fights, this is your movie.
Problems?
What was surely meant to be a riveting drama, wrought with complex motives and gasp-worthy twists, turned out to be somewhat of a yawn fest. Though the storyline has enough potential to make for an interesting two hours, the actors seem to be competing to be the first to put the audience to sleep. Sure, Beyoncé is a brilliant musician, but most would agree she lacks talent in the acting department. Elba, although graced with good looks and a cool attitude, is a disappointment as well, and displays very little noticeable emotion. However, it is almost worth sitting through all the boring fluff to see Knowles and Larter duke it out at the end... but I wouldn’t see it again.
All in all:
A tedious and unnecessary remake of Fatal Attraction.
