Remember Me will pull on your heartstrings.
Rating: PG-13
Stars: Robert Pattinson, Emilie de Ravin, Pierce Brosnan, Ruby Jerins
What’s the story?
Bad boy Tyler (Pattinson) is living the hectic life of a college student, while maintaining an almost impossible relationship with his father (Brosnan), who has been keeping as distant as possible from him and his little sister. Along the way, he meets Ally (de Ravin), who becomes a key person to discovering himself, as well as helping him heal from the family tragedies that hold him down.
Why see it?
Robert Pattinson is surprisingly convincing as a troubled young adult, and fills the role nicely and much more naturally then I would have expected from a previous vampire. With such a strong cast, the actors all work well together and feed off each other’s energy, which you can very clearly see in some of the more intense scenes in this movie. The connections between the characters seem very authentic, which, I can already tell, will be a trademark talent for Pattinson. Remember Me is filled with real-life passion that gives the audience the chance to experience more then the usual romantic drama we’ve all sat through countless times.
Who should skip it? Problems?
This movie tries too hard to pull on as many heartstrings as possible in the span of one movie, even at times when it comes off as random and completely unnecessary. The director expends too much effort trying to provoke a sudden strong emotional response, instead of taking the time to steadily develop these emotions. While a good cry is always expected at a movie titled Remember Me, the movie’s melodramatic nature causes it to be unbelievable, leaving the audience feeling too distant and removed from the characters.
All in all:
Filled with intense scenes, make sure you’ve got your tissue handy.
