What’s the story?
Tyler Hawkins (Pattinson) is a brooding Casanova from a wealthy New York family. His parents are separated and he blames his father for the suicide of his brother. Abandoning all traces of his wealth, Tyler chooses to live a simple life in a dingy apartment with his college friend, Aidan Hall (Ellington). One night on the town, Aidan and Tyler break up a fight outside a bar and are arrested when Tyler cheekily insults police detective Neil Craig (Cooper). Later on, Aidan discovers that Craig's daughter, Ally (de Ravin) attends NYU and suggests that Tyler seduce her as revenge. From then on, a romance blossoms with elements of betrayal and surprise on the sidelines.
Why see it?
Everyone wants to know: Can Robert Pattinson actually act? Judging from this movie, the answer is yes! I would give Pattinson an eight out of 10 on his performance in this film as the passionate and emotional Tyler Hawkins. Pattinson is believable as a confused and lost soul. Ruby Jerins, who plays Caroline Hawkins, Tyler's little sister, also shines in this movie and is a budding actress to look out for in Hollywood.
Who should skip it? Problems?
The ending of the movie is a bit of a shock, and it seems like an easy way out of finishing the story. As well, the plot is not unique among romantic comedies and gets a bit tedious at times.
All in all:
A touching depiction of relationships with loved ones.
