Top 13 Hikes in Greater Vancouver for Fun and Fitness

BC has a magnificent landscape for hikes, and with this year’s West Coast summer slowly warming up, I'd say it's about time to break out those hiking boots, don't you? Here are 13 ideal spots to check out over the break in the Greater Vancouver area.

1. Draycott/Westover Park, North Vancouver
A quaint little spot near Lynn Valley Centre with duck ponds and sky-scraping trees throughout for shade.

2. Braemar Park Reservoir, Vancouver
The astonishing view of the city found at the end of the path makes the trip worthwhile.

3. Murdo Frazer Park, North Vancouver
Calming and tranquil, Murdo Frazer Park is a nice place to visit to get away from the city chaos.

4. Kilmer Park, North Vancouver
You can practically get lost in a forest this size.

5. Mosquito Creek, North Vancouver
The name isn't as intimidating as it sounds. In fact, the laid-back trickle of the creek is quite soothing.

6. Lynn Canyon, North Vancouver
Aside from all the ever-present plant and animal life, what makes this trek great is that there is a lake with cool blue waters and steep rocks to jump from at the halfway point, which passersby can frolic in.

7. Loutet Park, North Vancouver
Be careful not to get side-swiped by the dirt bikers zooming past you!

8. Princess Park, North Vancouver
After a long walk, mosey on down to Park and Tilford for a nice hot meal and unwind with a movie.

9. Lighthouse Park, West Vancouver
The drive out to this location is an adventure in itself. The dandy part of the trip is that the path leads to a beach, and if the tide is low, you can walk pretty far offshore for a splendid photo op.

10. Greenwood Park, North Vancouver
Make sure you lace your boots for this one: steep, muddy, and tons of rocks to climb.

11. Rice Creek, North Vancouver
The best part of this trail is the lake, located directly beneath the bridge connecting Lynn Valley and Seymour.

12. Grouse Grind, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver
Easily a favourite trail of BC's outdoorsmen. Warning: this is an intensely vertical hike. If you don't want to walk back down, be sure to pack $10 to ride the gondola.

13. Indian Arm, North Vancouver
Square in the middle of BC's western coniferous rainforest, Indian Arm is a hiker’s dream, equipped with tall trees, crystal-clear lakes, steep paths, a swell view of Vancouver, and much more.
