English indie-rockers fall short on first live concert DVD.
To round off its two-year skyrocket to fame, English indie group Arctic Monkeys teamed up with director Richard Ayoade in 2007 to chronicle the band’s final gig on its world tour, a stop at the Manchester Apollo. The result is artistic, organic, straight-up concert footage that skips the glitz and virtually ignores the audience — and consequently fails to capture the show’s atmosphere. Although the set list is a good representation of Arctic Monkeys favourites, the bulk of the DVD comes off as awkward and sorely missing some personality. The bonus Live in Texas CD is a nice addition, but while diehard fans will enjoy the package, outsiders may want to skip it.
